We are delighted to invite you to attend “Building Bridges”, the 14th Panhellenic – 1st International Congress on Speech and Language Therapy, organized by the Panhellenic Association of Logopedists -Speech and Language Therapists.

To improve clinical effectiveness all speech therapists, whether experienced or not, need to be knowledgeable about current theoretical approaches and the recent methods of treating speech disorders. In order to develop the skills that are necessary to meet the needs of each client, one needs to keep up with scientific advancements, but also be able to apply existing knowledge to modern and clinically proven techniques and familiarize one self with the use of new technologies.

The 14th Panhellenic-1st International Congress on Speech and Language Therapy aims to fulfill this need, and to offer speech therapists insightful knowledge. At the same time, the congress will provide the benefits of a high-level scientific meeting, where a wide range of internationally renowned speakers and prominent Greek and Turkish scientists have been invited to participate.

Another objective of this congress is to demonstrate that speech and language therapy is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field. Doctors, psychologists, special educators, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, teachers create a unique network of scholars that will we have the opportunity to meet at the congress and exchange ideas and clinical experiences.

The three-day congress schedule has been carefully structured to offer insightful information and to encourage fruitful debate among researchers. A keynote invited speaker will open each session, followed by the speakers, all exceptional and distinguished Greek and foreign researchers at the forefront of their particular field. Each session will close with an interdisciplinary round table, where modern and innovative intervention methods will be presented and discussed.

Lastly, there will be workshops for those who seek additional education and training.

The congress will focus on five pathologies:

  • Multiculturalism: Language Development – Selective Mutism
  • Children with cochlear implants
  • Promoting Communication in adulthood

The congress aims at showing the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature of research and therapy approaches to speech and communication disorders/impairments. The congress’s main goal is not only to provide an overview of the recent developments in the field of speech and language therapy, but also to try to focus on every scientific aspect, such as prevention, therapy, evaluation, as well as on the most promising therapeutic future applications of current research and technology. A number of influential researchers from abroad have been invited to participate at the congress. The Panhellenic Association of Logopedists-Logotherapists has always aspired to broaden its collaboration with other associations of speech therapists. The participation of the Turkish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (DKTD) is inaugurating a new era of common effort at promoting the field of speech and language therapy.

The congress is addressed to a wide array of experts including mental health specialists (speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, etc.), medical doctors (psychiatrists, child psychiatrists, neurologists, child neurologists, pediatricians, ear, nose and throat experts, and voice specialists), education professionals (nursery school teachers, primary school teachers, special education teachers), linguists, neuropsychologists, research scientists, and students.
